What Does Canada Think?

Contact a student from another country from our blogging buddies list. Leave a comment on their latest post asking them the what do they think of when they hear the words “United States.” What are some symbols they would use to represent the United States. In your post please include the address of the blog you left a comment on, and then include the answer when they reply.

I decided to comment on a blog from Canada. I asked them what they thought of when they hear “United States.” I also asked if any symbols come to mind, too. I am still waiting for a response. You can check out the blog here.

A Look Into the Near Future

I have recently been thinking alot about my high school career. There’s just some much to do to prepare: make sure your courses are picked out( and that definitely takes alot of time out of your schedule), making sure you have the correct number of credits, getting all your teachers to sign off. It’s alot to do. And honestly, I’m kind of nervous about going to highschool. It’s hard to say what will become of me when I take my first steps into the school, and offically begin being a student there. I have a lot of fears about attending high school. Like: what if I don’t have any friends in any of my classes? What if I flunk out of a class? Will everything get so over-whelming that I finally give up all hope of finishing my high school career? Okay, well maybe I am exaggerating a little bit. But, I still have a fear of getting lost and being alone, too. What if the teachers are cruel? Unfortunately, I feel like there is more to stress over than be happy about. The one thing I am a little excited about is wondering what will become of my character when I leave. What will I want to do with my life? It’s been a question I have been impatiently waiting for.

When I go to highschool as a freshman, I hope for a lot of things, especially good ones. I hope I’ll have a successful first year, and I hope I’ll make a positive impression on everyone, even if I tend to come off not so nice. My high school goals are probably just to mantain a good grade average, make alot of new friends, and try to pay more attention to my goals and life more than other people’s.  (There is a harder goal for me.) I’m not saying I’m selfish, but I usual get caught up in everyone else’s bussiness. Not to get too presonal. I should probably just stop right there. My goals and dreams are nothing special really. Just the same ordinary dreams. That’s boring, and really, I don’t like being boring. Maybe when I get there, I’ll have a super duper special dream. Haha.

A very big change in so little time. I feel like a I just got used to middle school and got comfortable around people, and now I have to leave? OH NO. Stress factor rising. (stress problems, man). I think I can handle it. I always do. . . .

The road to high school is coming to an end, and I can see the finish line. I really feel anxious about this. . . .

The Most Amazing Person

Besides my parents, the biggest influences on my life is most definitely my sister and my cousin. I really can’t pick one or the other. They are the two most important people in my life. We are practically insperable; and when are together, all three of us have the most amazing times. We have the most memories than any group of friends in the world. I’ll bet any amount of money. Out of the three, I am the youngest.

They’re my role models really, both very kind, funny, and smart. My sister, the oldest, is like our second mother. She’s protective of both of us, maybe a little too much at times. My sister makes sure I am safe at all times when we’re out together, so that’s pretty much everyday of the week, twenty four hours a day.

The way my sister has had an impact on my life is very simple. She is always there for me no matter what. She is always willing to help me with anything, homework, personal life, whatever. My sister supports my desisions even though she may not always agree with them, and I do the same for her. We are always talking to eachother, and there is never a dull moment.

My cousin and I, we are pretty much the same person. We have the same thoughts, ideas, interests: we love animals, sports, everything. My cousin and I are the most creative and imaginative people you will ever meet. I can garrantee that. She is always there for me, too. She has helped me alot with my life, and has helped me become the person I am along with my sister. My favorite cousin, and one of my best friends.

My sister is the most amazing person in the world. I am going to miss her so much when she goes off to college next year! We used to fight so much, get into the biggest arguements about the dumbest things. Now that we’re older, we have grown so much closer together, and we have settled those differences. She is my sister, my best, best friend in the entire world, and I mean it- the  entire world. They both helped me grow so much.

Wondering. .Wondering. .Wondering. .

I wonder. . .

I wonder a lot of different things. I am always thinking, maybe a day-dreamer really; I’ll think about anything at all. Sometimes, I catch myself thinking about one specific topic. That topic just happens to be my future…

I wonder if I’ll ever become anything worth living when I am older. I always wonder about my future like: where will I live, what will I do, will I make a lot of money?  I have no idea about anything of these things. Is that a bad thing? I know now that I wont have these questions answered for a long time.

I wonder this because I like to have things all together and figured out before I do it. Now, I realize that you can’t always plan everything before it happens. You just have to be patient and let everything fall into place, but I can’t help but wonder. I can’t. Aren’t you ever curious? I bet at one point in most people’s lives they have tried to plan everything out when their like ten. I don’t know. Sometimes, I just really would like to know where I am going if I am going to end up going anywhere.

What do you think? Have you ever thought about your future?

School VS. Technology

”My real question, I guess, is what activity is so well suited to face-to-face contact that it can’t be replicated online? Whatever the answer to that question is, is what I need to be doing in my classroom, every day. “

This post is very interesting. It really caught my attention.
Sometimes I do feel that getting up and going to school everyday is a waste of time when so many things can be done through the computer. It’s an easy way to do alot of things. However, I think that coming together in a classroom has a bigger effect on education than doing things online. There are a few things that can’t really be done over the internet, like full interaction and communication between teacher and student and student and student. It’s important to have a good connection with eachother. I also think that doing things over the computer constantly can take away from the learning process. It’s hard to ask and anwser questions over the internet. In a classroom, other students and the teacher can talk to you and help you through the problem more easily.

A Wonderful Children’s Book Author & Illustrator

Kate Greenaway, a writer and illustrator, will always be remembered by her incredible stories for young children. She died on this day in 1901 at the age of fifty-five. She died in London.

Kate Greenaway is one of the most regconized children’s book illustrators of all time. Kate began showing her artist talents when she was in her teens. Her artwork, illustrations, poems and watercolors  she left behind give us valuable information about children’s lives in her time, the ninteenth century.

Greenaway worked with Edmund Evans. Evans produced her first book, Under the Window, in 1879 which was a best seller.

The Kate GreenawayMedal was established in England in honor of Kate. Annually, this medal is given to an illustrator with an outstanding piece in children’s literature. Edward Ardizzone was the first to recieve the medal in 1955.

K-0-H-L-S

Alright, the assignment was to email a company or organization. I was debating over a few: Kohls, The Humane Society near here, or Sweet Nuts. I decided not to pick The Humane Society because they are probably too busy with animals to worry about little kids emailing them. I couldn’t contact Sweet Nuts because they don’t have email. (I was really mad because I wanted to apologize for dropping my chocolate ice cream on the floor. ahahaha) So, I emailed the store, Kohls.

I also chose Kohls because I really love the store. It has really nice clothes for women and men of all ages, accesseries like jewelry and purses, and shoes, I mean really cute shoes. Also, it isn’t too expensive unlike Hollister and other stores. Don’t get me wrong, I like Hollister, too, but Kohl’s is a great store for people with a tighter budget, and they are just as good. Kohls also has decor for your house.

For some reason I really couldn’t tell you, I asked the question, “When did the first Kohls store go into business?” I guess I was kind of curious to know wether Kohls was newer or older. I emailed the store, so why not ask more about them?

I have not yet gotten a response from Kohls since I just emailed it today. Hm, I wonder if I will.

Do you like Kohls, too? Did you email a store?

Environment. When I think of that word, I think of the trees and the forests and the wild animals and the oceans and fresh air. Then, I think of air pollunts, littering, animal habitats being destroyed, and cutting down more and more trees. I think of negative things and say to myself, there are so many simple ways to help our evironment.

One of the biggest options is to get behind the wheel less. Riding your bike or walking to closer destinations reduces the pullutants in the air which contribute to the problem of global warming; car pooling with friends is helpful, too.

Recyle, recycle, recycle. Recycling paper and bottles are a simple but affective way to help the environment. You can use the back of an old sheet of paper for a shopping list and other things. Reusing and recycling paper saves thousands of trees that are cut down from rainforests; this destroys the homes of many animal species.

The third and fourth way to take part in saving our planet is to cut down on the water and the energy we use everyday. By cutting down shower time and turning the faucet off while brushing your teeth saves gallons of water. You should also turn off lights when you leave a room or unplug small electronics when they are not in use.
Be Part of the Solution, Not the Problem.

“We all moan and groan about the loss of the quality of life through the destruction of our ecology, and yet each one of us, in our own little comfortable ways, contributes daily to that destruction. It’s time now to awaken in each one of us the respect and attention our beloved mother deserves.”
